Your mother made the CHOICE to give you a choice. The state did not FORCE her to let you choose. Therefore the situation is completely different than compelling a father to give a child a choice. Would you have wanted your mother- already the victim of adversity- to have been forced by a government to give you the choice to leave? What you are advocating is that the machinery of the state interpose itself even further between parent and child. Is that what you want?
