I'm with you, BWAC. I hate the cable companies as a matter of principle (remember when they claimed that passage of the 1996 Telecommunications "Reform" Act would lower cable prices?), and I love my new DSL line.

I look forward to the counter-argument from some of our very well-versed @Home proponents, however, giving us extremely technical lectures on nodes in the back-office...

Don't understand, though, your reference to the degradation of this thread. Whatever could compel you to make such a wild-ass statement???

Security Concerns?
Hello?
Can You say WINDOWS 98 = ZERO SECURITY.

What's up with that?
If you're Running a Secure Highly Sensitive (BroadBand)Server...
Do you expect to get it for 40 dollars a month?
I'm not here to Defend the Cable companies.
But i'm not here to defend the Phone companies either.
Who have a dis-Insentive (IMO) to Roll out Broadband.
They don't want it...It cuts in to their Long Distance Billing Big time...
At least @Home is trying to Answer to the Demand of the Masses.....
AOL is trying to Kill the Demand of the masses...In my opinion...Progress...Could Damage AOL going forward...It's a fundamental shift....If you Will...It's a RACE...and @Home is Winning it...Right now....They have been building out their infrastructure...for several years...and are well ahead of the Pack...right now....(IMO)

Why are you going to pay 20 dollars per month...to download at 5K bits/sec or whatever ...when you can download at Many Magnitudes of higher speed.....

DSL has 200 thousand subscribers worldwide...HELLO....For every DSL subscriber WorldWide...there are nearly 12 Cable BroadBand Subscribers...

ps....I heard that several CRAY computers...cracked a 15 character encrypted password in 24 hours....WOW...I have security concerns too....

You are welcome to your twisted pair; I'll go with AT&T cable as I have for a year now. No problems since they took over from TCI. Every so often my modem goes out and I shut it off for 5 minutes and on again. fast and reliable. At this end I have an iMac AV running Mac OS 9.04 and Netscape whatever, so to be replaced.
