Jon, i do think a responsible parent gives great weight to the considered desires of the child. Under the law of our species, the decision for a minor child ultimately rests with the parent[s], and that is as it should be imho. In your story, i notice that it was your mother who handed you the decision - which was well within her right to do so. For the state to remove the right from the parent is quite a separate thing, with enormous implications.
