Patents issued in the last few years now expire 20 years from the date of application. The change is not retro-active. There is usually about 2-3 years between application and issue so the length of a patent still remains approximately the same. It looks like the five IDC patents in question will expire in 2009-2010, well before I believe cellular spreads greater than 10Mhz will be close to commercialization.
