I cannot but agree with you on that- and btw it's a wonderful story. The mother was lucky to have the opportunity to make the choice to allow her child to go for treatment. I bet it was hard for the mother to stick out the decision as well. It is always hard to cause a child pain even when it is in their "best interests". I felt terrible giving my children vaccinations- they would NOT have chosen to have them. I make them get flu shots every year- am I correct in doing that? I don't know. Other parents make different decisions. But we got so ill one year with a flu I was very nearly hospitalized and so was my daughter. And so - EVEN though they scream about it I make them get the flu shots. I make my six year old ride in a special car seat- even though she is over 4 years and forty pounds- the law in our state. She HATES it. But I feel it is the right decision based on accident victim statistics (under 90 pound people are simply not adequately protected by normal seat belts). Am I traumatizing her for life in some way? I don't know- I just have to make the best educated guess- but even if I WASN'T educated- I'd have the right to make my best guess.

It's not perfect- but nothing ever is.
