No offense taken. Likewise, please forgive the remark about anonymous profiles.

IP protection is a day to day function grounded in the property rights and affecting virtually every form of commerce; antitrust enforcement seems to rear its ugly head cyclically and I would argue is selectively enforced.

Monopoly oversight is a much less needed form of protection where markets and capital are freely accessible because market-based monopolies tend to be ephemeral. Strong markets and competition produce a natural state of equilibrium.

Legal monopolies are a different situation. Just look at the trend in state government. Public Service Commissions are hardly as active or relevant as they were in prior years when legal utilities monopolies were the rule.
Therefore, I think that antitrust is a dead duck and is only being propped up by government for the public sector jobs it produces. Of course, I believe the same holds true for the Depts. of Commerce, Education and Energy.
