Telxon Announces New PTC-2000 Palm-Sized Computer Sets New Standard in the Palm-Size Computing Market

CINCINNATI and CHICAGO, May 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Telxon Corporation
(Nasdaq: TLXN), a world leader in delivering quality, innovative solutions for
mobile information and wireless communications systems, announced its
PTC-2000, a sturdy, lightweight palm-sized computer ideal for today's mobile
computing environment, at the opening of the FMI 2000 Supermarket Industry
Show in Chicago, yesterday. The PTC-2000 delivers unprecedented flexibility
by combining an easy-access, industry-standard Type II PC Card slot and
integrated numeric keypad for rapid data entry with a powerful processor
utilizing Microsoft(R) Windows CE software capabilities. General availability
for the PTC-2000 is scheduled for June 2000 domestically and internationally.
The PTC-2000 provides customers a low cost of ownership and enables them
to deploy, support, grow and migrate to new applications by utilizing "off-

the-shelf," industry-standard Type II PC cards and applications written in the
widely-popular Windows CE environment.

Ideally suited for a wide range of point-of-use applications in retail,
warehousing and distribution, transportation and logistics, route sales, and
many other horizontal applications, the PTC-2000's ruggedized, ergonomic
design offers the best features of a PDA-like form factor plus the integration
of a numeric keypad for rapid data entry. The easily accessible Type II PC
card slot allows for maximum versatility in selecting a variety of industry-
standard cards such as wireless LAN radios and storage cards. The Windows CE
operating system allows applications to be developed easily and quickly.

John W. Paxton, Sr., Telxon's chairman and CEO, said, "Telxon is excited
about the PTC-2000, which offers a lightweight, robust palm-sized computer at
a price well below its competitors. Responding to customers' needs for
increased investment protection, low lifetime cost of ownership and maximum
flexibility, we've incorporated valuable features like the industry-standard
PC card slot and the versatility of the Windows CE operating system. With
this innovative solution, Telxon is setting a new, ruggedized standard in the
palm-size computing market."

The PTC-2000's monochrome display offers a generous 3.8" diagonal viewing
area with back light feature for indoor, outdoor or low-light environments.
Also included in the feature-packed PTC-2000 are an IrDA interface, serial
port and an optional integrated laser barcode scanner. Ensuring optimum
uptime, the PTC-2000 can be powered with either a rechargeable 1450 mAh Ni-MH
battery pack or 3 AA batteries. And to keep work interruptions to a minimum,
a Li-lon Bridge battery lets the user hot-swap batteries while running an
application.
