Bob:

The accounting change was out before this quarter,as evidenced by Cohu taking their medicine early(as I should've anticipated and didn't). Here's the kicker I'm struggling with: Wouldn't any semi equip. co. worth its salt have sandbagged last quarter and eased into the next quarter with an adjustment that smoothes out the transition over two quarters.

The SEC issued the directive last December and initially had it set for implementation for the 1st quarter. SEMI lobbied the SEC to delay implementation to give them time to issue thier opposition and propose alternatives.

COHU is the only Semi company I know of that has implemented. AMAT indicated in the CC Q&A something to the effect they don't comment on future events that they feel unlikey to occur (something like that anyway).

With the weakness in the equip sector on the day the SEC announces: IF they announce they are "amending" the acceptance requirement I'd be chasing cohu, mtsn, ltxx & cymi (4 I follow although I've just started following cohu). If they are not amending the sector will take more of a hit and then rebound (rebound can be soon or over a 3 to 5 months) and right now I'm only exposed in COHU which has implemented. $34 held last week but I can see $31 being tested on a sell off.
