I am glad that you approve of my solution. Suddenly, it made sense to me. Neither is of quite the stature of Verne, and both were essential to bringing the genre out of the pulps....

I have not yet read "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress", to my chagrin. I have, however, read "Lord of Light" a number of times. I first read it about 23 years ago, in college, and since have read it, in whole or part, several times. It is, indeed, one of the best science fiction novels ever written, and Zelazny is very good. I have read a couple of the Amber novels, and some stories. Another of my favorites, although almost transcending the genre, is "A Canticle for Leibowitz". Have you read it?
