LRCX has a large installed base at Nanya, I believe.
This bodes well for Lam.

Taiwan's Nanya spending over $800 million to
increase DRAM production

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Nanya Technology Corp. today announced it was investing more than
$800 million in a new 200-mm wafer fab to increase production of DRAMs. The facility is
located in Linkao, about 30 miles south of Taipei.

The chip-processing frontend, called Fab 2, will be capable of producing 30,000 eight-inch
wafers a month, according to the company. The fab is now in pilot production of
128-megabit DRAMs using 0.175-micron technology, and it is expected to start fabrication of
256-Mbit memories later this year, Nanya said.

"In 2000 Nanya is expected to break into the top 10 DRAM manufacturers worldwide and
became the newest DRAM leader in technology and production volume," said Ken Hurley,
president of Nanya North America and Europe, who is based in San Jose. He said the
company plans "extensive plant automation" to enable a fast ramp of volume production at
competitive costs.

Nanya's Fab 2 is slated to be in full volume production by the middle of 2000.

"With the strength and financial backing from our parent company--Formosa Plastic
Group--Nanya can continue the rate of capital investment necessary to remain at the
leading edge of DRAM manufacturing." Hurley claimed. Nanya Technology, based in
Taoyuan, Taiwan, was founded in 1995 and began production of semiconductors in 1996.

The buildup of Nanya's DRAM capacity comes as industry analysts are warning of memory
shortages in the second half of 2000 (see May 8 story).
