if you believe that for a second, think again. do you really believe the treasury wouldn't bail Fannie and Freddie out? the backbone of mortgage lending?
it may be that they wanted to warn them not to expand their balance sheets so quickly, but i don't think there's really more than that to the recent remarks emanating from treasury.
remember the S&L's? heck, they even bailed Mexico out! they'd do it for the GSE's at the drop of a hat.
