i expect on the contrary that they will not have the political will to NOT bail them out. look at how big the GSE's balance sheets have become...if they get into trouble, what would you call it except a 'financial disaster'? as was the case with the S&L's, there will be no getting around it. the integrity of the system will be invoked and they will be bailed out... don't forget, their activities in the credit markets are an important part of the bubble's merry-go-round. it couldn't do without them.
