arent the Freeport preferreds somehow tied to the price of gold itself? i seem to remember Wayne Crimi telling me about it, he hangs out on the ask MB thread.
my experience is that political uncertainty is often an issue prone to exaggeration. however Freeport McMoran has most or all of its assets in Indonesia and the region is particularly volatile.

i'm really surprised that JPM is getting a bid...it defies logic.
