TC, MAO is a feature of the RealTick III trading software. The only disadvantage I see to MAO is that I like to use my fast and slow MA as my support/resistance lines for intraday trades and, as I've explained here, I generally use those lines as my stops.

However, if using simple crossovers as entry/exit signals, the MAO is easier to read that SMA's.

I totally agree with your answer about waiting for the crossover to happen... For my trading style, I have a more difficult time anticipating the trade than I do waiting for a clear signal.
