OT: AFCI

Steve- Well I understand pretty much where AFCI fits into the network. I've had it for quite a while now. The latest current battles going on at the FCC between the incumbent LECs and the data-CLECs is going to be a major factor in when AFCI will really ramp up sales. It's a pretty complicated battle going on involving FCC ruling 99-238.

It's a battle as to whether or not ILECs can keep from having to line share by running fiber and ATM out to the product AFCI supplies, the RT(remote terminal). Or more technically, a 'NGDLC' which is AFCI's claim to fame.

Ironically, it's largest customer is Winstar. A fixed broadband wireless SP. Having nothing to do with what I believe AFCI's real growth will come from, the RT aspect.

Other than this, I have no opinion on it's current market cap or if it's a buy at these levels. I've owned it for some time now. Every since I figured out SBC's Project Pronto plans(which should include AFCI as it rolls DSL out).

Oh, another important aspect. It's sitting on a billion dollars in assets($718 million is CSCO investment).<g> HTH. -MikeM(From Florida)
