I ALWAYS get that "work offline" or "try again" thing when I start EI, and hit "try again" to connect. Once I got SWB tech support and mentioned this.....seemed they'd heard of the problem but had no idea how to fix it....they also don't like helping with browser issues much. They recommended Netscape, which I installed but it doesn't solve much. SWB has preloaded links to their various sites tho, including support, and I think that's the reason they recommend it. Otherwise, performance is about the same. I'll look at SystemMechanic.

I have seen this pause also (using a cable modem). After discussing with a tcp/ip networking pro, my understanding is this: your timeout is faster than the DNS can respond. But by the time your second request gets in, the address is cached by your ISP and you get success.

Used to get this with dialup also, but much slower. ;)
