re "any upcoming Tszyu fights..." Motivated Chavez Says He Will Knock Out Tszyu MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Mexican boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez, a former world champion in three different weight classes, says he will regain his WBC superlightweight title by knocking out champion Konstantin Tszyu by the eighth round. The 37-year-old Chavez, a veteran of 109 fights, will take on Russian-born Tszyu, who is now based in Australia, on July 29 in Phoenix. ``I've got a tremendous amount of motivation because this will be my last fight, and then the critics can say this is the old man,'' said Chavez, who may be old for a boxer but is very well conditioned for a grandfather. ``He's a great champion, but not greater than me and I'm going to show that and at the same time shut a lot of critics' mouths,'' he said after a news conference on Monday. ``I'm going to win before the eighth round by knockout. I feel great, I'm working really hard and I know my capacity.'' Last October 2 in Las Vegas, a thick-waisted, flatfooted, completely untrained Chavez lost a 10-round decision to journeyman Willy Wise in a non-title welterweight contest that gave his band of critics a golden opportunity to call for his immediate retirement. Since then he has made partial amends by polishing off the equally undistinguished Buck Smith in three rounds in his home city of Culican, Sinaloa. World Boxing Council President Jose Sulaiman has said he is giving Chavez one last opportunity to win a world title. ``Julio has had three years of irresponsibility. Now that he sees that the end is near, I'm surprised to see that he's back. He has lost a lot of weight and has a sincere determination,'' said Sulaiman. ``He's already been altitude training in the mountains and by the time of the fight he will have spent three months there. SULAIMAN SEES HUNGER IN CHAVEZ ``I've only seen this sort of hunger at the beginning of his career. In those years he was the most determined champion of the world and I'm again seeing this in his eyes and in his actions. ``I greatly respect Julio Cesar Chavez. He's the greatest Mexican boxing champion ever. Konstantin Tszyu is a great fighter and can really punch, but let me tell you that if Julio Cesar Chavez is well prepared and dedicates himself to getting into tip top shape he can beat anybody still.'' In a 109-fight career which started way back in 1980, Chavez has lost only four times, and drawn twice. Two of those losses were at the hands of Oscar de la Hoya and were due to cuts. Chavez has never been knocked out. Tszyu, 30, has had 26 fights with 24 wins, one draw and one defeat to Vincent Phillips, who stopped him in the 10th round in Atlantic City in 1997. Tszyu stopped former lightweight world champion Miguel Angel Gonzalez of Mexico last August in 10 one-sided rounds. In 1998 Chavez and Gonzalez slugged out a 12-round draw in a Mexico City bullring.
