Re: AMD is quite capable of making such a chipset as they are far less complex than CPUs.

True enough. However, it takes time to do a new chipset and new motherboards and to put the whole shebang through system tests. I do not believe it can be done in 3 months.
6 months would be pushing it.

As INTC experience with the 820 board indicates these new platforms have to go through a full test cycle including configuration testing.

It looks like AMD is already in trouble on this new product.
Meanwhile, Willy is breathing down AMD back.

Re: AMD is quite capable of making such a chipset as they are far less complex than CPUs...

Hi Bill,

Recent events have me thinking that chipsets may be more difficult than CPUs. So many external factors can sink the system.

I think that AMD's 750 chipset has been greatly under rated by many. Some of the credit for that chipset undoubtedly goes to Compaq/Digital for the bus design but I think the fact remains that one the main reasons AMD is doing so well right now is that they have a rock solid chipset.

I am so so glad I have been specing systems with this chipset instead of the 820! Kudos to the chipset team at AMD!

Regards,

Dan

PS - Never fired for buying Intel, eh? How'd you like to be the guy at Asus who pushed ramping up fast on 820 production?
