I do hope we will be careful in appearing to assume that US standards are the standards all should strive for. I, for one, found life in Europe to be (in some ways) much more civilized and pleasant than life in the US, mostly because the standards are more in tune with family life and quality of leisure time rather than focus on work life and convenient ways to spend money. I just spent 2 solid, long days catching up on this thread! Whew! It was worth it just to keep up with my friends here. It was interesting to see the calm discussions during the market crisis.
