Gene,

Assuming the ASP of OptiPlex approaches $1000 as the unit/revenue forecasts seem to indicate, what do you see as the OptiPlex platform mix?

I'm not sure whether you mean the Dimension/Optiplex mix or the low-end/high-end mix within the Optiplex line. In the first case, my default guesstimate is to stay with the roughly 40/60 breakout (when you have no new information, do nothing <G>).

In the second (low-end vs high-end), I honestly have no clue. In general, I'd assume the low-end gets the lion's share of the units, but it would be a completely worthless wag to put out any numbers. Plus, what's low-end for enterprises? You can buy an RDRAM-based Optiplex for $1200 if your user already has a monitor. I saw something recently (I posted it, but don't remember the source) that said that the corporate sweet spot was $1000 to $1500. The GX200 line is probably best positioned for enterprises looking to buy systems that have a 3-4 year life. So even the low-end/high-end split isn't necessarily a proxy for the SDRAM/RDRAM split.

Who knows for certain what the future will bring? Only Carl. <G>

The rest of us are just going to have to wait and watch.

Dave
