joelnivision. Hardly. The US is the first country in history to make advancing human rights a part of its foreign policy. The realpolitic of Europe now and the balance of power European politics of old carved up countries like sausage and totally ignores human rights. For example the WTO approvals for China are bogged hown in congress over the human rights issue and the Chinese government is incensed that the US would interject itself into the question of how China treats its citizens.
Also, If a sweatshop in Africa is a vast improvement over current conditions, as harsh as it may seem to you, both the Affricans and their trading partners are better off with trade than without it.
