Hockeyfan, per the following, Veridicom is working with INTC, but obviously their system has 'bugs' - (wonder how the demo would have gone if INTC used IDX instead?)

"The Intel Protected Access Architecture involves systems software that will demand user authentication before the Windows operating system will boot up on a notebook computer, said Frank Spindler, director of marketing for Intel's mobile computing group. A wide variety of third-party security device makers will support
the software, Spindler said, including Veridicom Inc. (Santa Clara, Calif.), which makes a fingerprint recognition module. Spindler struggled with a demo of the software using Veridicom's fingerprint-recognition device, but managed to get the program to work after repeated attempts. "
