New Intellectual Property Law Needed For Net Era: LDP
Wednesday, May 17, 2000

TOKYO (Nikkei)--The ruling Liberal Democratic Party has drafted proposals for judiciary reform aimed at protecting intellectual property rights in the age of the Internet, The Nihon Keizai Shimbun learned Tuesday.

The reform plan calls for effective protection of copyrights for games and other software, as well as patents for business models and genetic research. Also called for in the proposals are rules for e-commerce and measures to encourage smaller firms and universities to obtain patents for their inventions and findings.

In light of the growing number of lawsuits over intellectual property, the LDP proposals also stress the need for a new conflict resolution mechanism to ensure speedy out-of-court settlements.

At the request of the software industry, the LDP is calling for discussion of a system that would require Internet service providers to disclose information about online criminals and to keep records of all data communications.

After consulting with government ministries and agencies, the LDP intends to submit a reform bill to next year's ordinary session of the Diet.

GP,

I know you are a closet AMDroid from your reaction to any negative news. Your notion of proof is ridiculous. If I chose not to post the URL it does not mean that such URL's do not exist. <G> BY equivalent logic, the fact that a URL exists does not mean it is proof. Do your own leg work lazy guy!

Hey, but don't get me going here. Even Carl has said that AMD may very well miss the Christmas selling season with the DDR motha boards.

:)
