Don....

>>OK Fred, count me in. You have worn me down and I am successfully evangelized. Ready to commit, time, energy, passion, leadership, organization, trust et al to the cause.>>

(RUG).....gosh, you validated it. It's your Rug Don. You asked for it.

Now, this is how riding the River works. Let go, jump, risk, etc.

Just to be sure the right perspective is taken:

1) Whenever you communicate with others, be sure to place youself UNDER "their" RUG. Expose yourself. Let them learn to strut, walk and dance ON YOU if necesary. For this is what this SERVICE model calls for - personal empowerment through acts of service which become the record - not words.

2) >>I am prepared to order T-shirts emblazoned with the new moniker...RedEnd Users Group (RUG)>>

Great.....GO!!

You pick the logo. How about a real RUG? Do it. GO!!

Order 50 for the first 50 volunteers. But remember, the First 50 get the worst abuse. Every RUG is a potential doormat to others. Place yourself higher and your no longer a RUG.

YOU pass them out. Remember, I'm just YOUR RUG.

To create energy, there are only two questions I need to remember in the RUG Service model:

first....day duh...or here in Chicago it's 'da' me to you...

1) How can I help you?

2) How can I serve you?

>>I'm ready for the first organizational meeting.>>

Great, how about Montana! September.....We have land there 14 miles north on highway 89 just 1 mile south of Clyde Park. I'll volunteer to help organize the first RUG meeting. You tell me what to do.

The place I'd recommend is www.teneagles.com

>>I'm ready to participate in a White Paper outlining our objectives.>>

Great!

I'd recommend assigning this task to others like Scott, Peter, Paul and Toy.

GO!!

>>I'm ready to order the chairs to stand on. Short legs for easier climbing on.>>

GO!!

Who's that Utah chair-standing guy who came on the thread awhile back. Why don't you assign me to assign him to paint the first official RUG chair for him/us to learn how to stand on chairs. I'll wait for your reply.

>>I'm technologically challenged but organizationally adept.>>

Hey, unless we are all taking ourselves too seriously, we all need a shrink...so I'd say we are all "technologicall challenged." Organizationally adept? Hire my wife, Maribeth. I call her Mrs. Bullets. She shoots, fires and is extremely efficient. She's amazing. Caring but direct as all get out!!

>>I can figure but I can't lie.>>

Get Waldy to get someone to direct the Heinz "Ketchup Investigation!" I love ketchup, but leave me out of that one for while I can't lie, I have trouble figuring.

>>I'm a committed long term investor beginning to question my acumen.>>

It's the Internet, stupid! And this is NOT some right wing conspiracy. Remember, what's rightside up is really upside down. You'll get use to it.

>>I believe in the storewidth paradigm.>>

Great Gilder Godzilla to to you, too! Get George to come to the first meeting in Montana or wherever you decide.

>>My home computer network is in shambles (mixing Windows and Mac has been challenging).>>

Nothing Peter, Paul, Scott and Toy or others couldn't advise to correct.

>>My small business network (3 remote locations) works OK using Timbuktu.>>

I hear Scott has some interesting solutions which could enhance Timbuktu.

>>Wireless IP is important to our business future.>>

I'm there with ya.

>>I once passed up a great job in Salt Lake City, but generally I like Mormons and I love their compassion.>>

I'm completing a deal with a Morman businessman as I'm typing this: we close tomorrow. Everyone has their stories of every religion in this great wild world of ours. I've visited the Temple, broke bread with many, went through the missionary course over 8+ weeks (and 2-3 rotationsl of personell later), have read a good portion of the book of Morman and have ongoing dealings with several individuals "of the faith." All I can say is what a wonderful world we all live in!! My wife is Catholic, we were married in a Catholic church and my kids have been baptized in the Catholic Church - a very nontraditional one which serves the greater Northwestern University community. As for me, I'm there to support and serve anyone, anywhere, anytime. Faith and love is universal.

>>I have lots of frequent flyer miles.>>

THE New Age currency for physical connectivity.

>>I want to prove to my friends and associates that I am right and they are wrong about Novell. Also the broker at MSDW.>>

Yea, I can here them all laughing. Let them laugh all they want. This thing WILL turn around BIGTIME.

>>Next step that I can do is ???????>>

Work to develop a mission/vision statement for RUG:

>>IMPORTANT CRITERIA: Be sure it is practical, efficient, goal/results oriented, clearly defined, meaningful, positive, supportive, and of course trustworthy.>>

Organizationally, Don, you've just set into motion something which could evolve to become a wonderful adventure. Movie rights. Yours buddy. I'm just your RUG.

Always remember to have fun, be open and stay in the RIVER!!

GO!!

Peace.

Peace/go, go/peace.....I'm there, man. Take it from here.

>>Don T.>>

Fred Smart

>>ps: I bet Paul will find out about RUG and join in if it has merit.>>

Only IF you jump into the river by 1) delegating; 2) trusting in the energy of this River; 3) risking and 4) openly communicating as you go.

I'm there, but remember I'm UNDER your RUG and will NOT cut to do anything unless and until the sould of this community wants me to do something specifically in some way, shape or form. I'm great at standing on chairs. Where is that guy from Utah - be sure to find him!
