I agrea. If the Fed does another 1/2% next month, the possibility of an overshoot (=hard landing) is quite high. That's why I went to 70% cash today. The Fed is trying to control a negative feedback loop with a 6-(or maybe 12-) month response delay. Abrupt, aggressive changes in the inputs almost guarantee a severe overshoot in the response later this year, or by early 2001 at the latest. About the time the inflation genie gets stuffed back into her bottle, the economy will be on a road to negative growth. And Fed easings at that point will not stop it.
