This is the relevant discussion: "Digital Island uses the most advanced streaming technology to deliver on-demand and live media across the AOL infrastructure. AOL users can also receive content through Digital Island?s content delivery services, which distribute content outside of the existing AOL network." AOLTV is using the Philips Trimedia processor. Here is a recent iNEXTV job posting: iNEXTV has an exciting opportunity for you to join our "Internet Technology Group" as a founding member to develop applications for streaming video. As a member of the group you will be responsible for the development of streaming video application to run on a Philips Trimedia co-processor in Windows NT host. All RM (Real Media) clips MUST use a RealNetworks Server, software appears to user preference. EXBTV curently uses RealServer Version 6.1.3.947 running Linux. No idea why they mention NT. Based on my limited knowledge, Linux is much more stable than NT. Is there a set-top box using Windows NT?? Strange: The Trimedia chip is being heavily utilized in upcoming consumer products. It does not appear to have commercial applications i.e. used for encoding. <<Building on the TriMedia? VLIW (very-long instruction word) processor technologies pioneered by Philips and now transferred to the new company, TriMedia Technologies will create and license new processor cores and software for advanced digital consumer products. Examples of these products include digital televisions, advanced set-top boxes, personal video recorders, video editors, home networking devices, security and surveillance systems, and videophones.>> Also strange how we are seeking royalties for Digital Television Receivers nad Personal Video Recorders (digital format - Tivo). Now if we could find out which set-top box is using the Trimedia processor and runs using Windows NT we could be onto something....
