Anand's response to the uproar generated by his article:

My Rambus article generated quite a bit of response, but with anything as controversial as Rambus technology I expected nothing less. Next week you'll see part two of the article which addresses the real world performance (or lack thereof) of RDRAM in comparison to SDRAM including the discussion of latency that has been brought up quite a bit. Do keep one thing in mind, that is that never once did I make it a point to recommend RDRAM over DDR or regular SDRAM, the point of the article was to draw attention to the fact that the need for more memory bandwidth is definitely present and RDRAM is more than capable of providing that bandwidth, provided that the price of the solution does drop to a much more reasonable level. As of now, it is not a viable option nor will it be anytime this year, as I made it a point to mention in the article. Those of you that have been visiting AnandTech for the past 2 - 3 years know the emphasis I put on integrity in my recommendations, and keep in mind that the article was in no way a recommendation to go out and buy RDRAM, rather a statement that for now, SDR and DDR SDRAM makes the most sense but later (in 2001 and beyond) something new will definitely be necessary. Memory bandwidth is extremely important, if you don't believe that, look at the 66 vs 100 vs 133MHz benchmarks in my Celeron 600 review.
