That is plausible.

I have no independent knowledge as to what really happened with that charity so all I can do is look at all sides from the people who do know or can show evidence of what happened.

It is plausible he misunderstood the question. However, with that said...it is clear he has said these things more than one time or he would not have been brought to court.
