Trends: ICA - The emerging standard for server-based computing

thinplanet.com

======

I highly reccomend this site. I've subscribed to the free newsletter and found it very informative if not at times completely above my head. To wit the following excerpts:

==================================================
7. Thread of the week # 3 - Stopped license service
==================================================
Posted by: Matthew Krieger (United States)
Board: Citrix MetaFrame

My Terminal Server Licensing Service failed to start because of an ODBC
problem. I'll fix it by reapplying the latest MDAC components, but I'm
curious why this isn't preventing users from connecting. Any ideas?

5. Thread of the week # 1 - Application only runs from console
==================================================
Posted by: Jonathan Lawson (United States)
Board: Citrix Windows Terminal Server

I have an application that is running on WTS 4.0 sp5 with Citrix
Metaframe
1.8. When trying to execute an application the system will error
stating
that it can not find a specified DLL's. Yet when the application is
tested
from the console the application will launch. The application was
installed
using global install mode and will run with any user account as long as
the
ICA is launched from the console. The error only occurs if the ICA is
launched from a client workstation (occurs with all users including
administrator). Any Ideas? Thanks

Re: ICA's Positioning in Emerging Mobile Wireless Internet

"I always figured it[Symbian/Psion] was a stop-gap measure while waiting for bigger mobile wireless pipes which may be up to five years, or more off in the future....Here's today's PR with info on the alliance and all technologies in current discussion. Talk about a mis-mash of competing technologies. But then again, the more the better for CTXS. "

Heeren- Generally I'm a "here and now" type investor. Always on the lookout as to what will drive the top line(in CTXS bottom line too) growth within the next quarter or two. I see the 2Mps mobile wireless pipe being quite a few years off as I wrote in the post above. Nonetheless, mobile wireless Internet is still an another area that I personally am quite excited near term. Because as we transition to mobile wireless Internet, it's a mass of confusion. Confusion ICA may be able to take advantage of.

"Just a little conversation on the Last Mile thread that involved CTXS. I'm pretty sure someone on this thread asked the significance of the Psion agreement to place Citrix's ICA protocol on their Symbian platform. Hopefully the following series of posts, read in order, explains it's significance. You have to read carefully because it's a crazy world out their with all the OS for handhelds, palms, mobile phones, etc. Ironically the more confusing it becomes, the better for Citrix."

Heeren- I'm not certain if you have been following the mobile wireless Internet as an access technology, so I thought I would post this rollup url on the confusion I believe currently in place today. Again, hopefully a confusion that ICA could do wonders to untangle if marketed properly.

Now if I recall correctly, in reviewing your personal comments/opinions over the last 4 weeks, I believe you mentioned the importance of imbedding ICA into so many devices that are unable to talk with each other due to differing standards. Another idea I fully embrace that ICA solves. Did I understand your comments accurately in this regards?

It's just that I read so very little about this problem buster solution that ICA solves and would like to hear someone else's opinion of it. Thanks. -MikeM(From Florida)
