I am not convinced that those who have not experienced invasion or extreme domestic disorder are qualified to judge the motives of those who have.

Many Chinese of the WWII generation, for example, are convinced that the need to maintain a strong central government with the capacity to defend the nation is far more important then democracy or human rights. They are also convinced that foreign powers, if given the slightest opportunity, would gladly dismember and plunder their country. I don't agree with them, but looking at their history I can understand why they believe what they do.

It is also useful to note that many of the same individuals who vocally deplore government intervention in Waco or Miami are the first to demand Government sanctions against exercises of liberty that they happen to dislike. I do hope your libertarian principles are consistent.
