Hi Maurice:

Just look at what Bill Gates is doing under the
very nose of the Justice Department. Windows CE is
a massive clunker, but how does Bill get it into
every set-top box in the US and Europe? He just uses
his big wad of cash to take small positions in about
every cable company and CLEC under the sun: ATT, Comcast,
Winstar, ... (the list is very long).

Standard Oil was a private monopoly. Microsoft is
today's Standard Oil. I do not view the enforcement
of antitrust laws as anticapitalistic. In fact,
capitalism requires vigorous trust busting. If AT&T was
still running the phone system, do you really believe
we would have Q-phones, cable modems, xDSL modems,
IP telephony, and for a few more months, mobile
satellite telephony? I am really sorry to see conservatives
coming to Bill Gates defense. The only conservative who
seems to have it right is Judge Bork.

Best regards,

Bernard Levy

>>I've never heard of a private monopoly which didn't operate under some government protection<<

You need to brush off your American History books, how about U.S. Steel or Standard Oil?
