Socket-A Motherboards Materialize (AMD)

Thanks to a reader for letting me know that Socket-A motherboards have shown up:

Motherboard Price
FIC AZ11 $159
Gigabyte 7-ZX $159
Microstar MS6330 $149

These boards are based on the VIA KZ-133 chipset and while the prices aren't set in stone, availability is said to begin sometime in June. This is great news for everyone wondering whether or not Socket-A motherboards will be available for Duron and Thunderbird when the chips are released.

Re: Still not NT/2000 systems though...

We've gotten Windows 2000 systems from Gateway. They don't list them on the web page, but for $75 extra they will pre-load Windows 2000 (on Athlon systems). There are a number of peripherals like DVD, CD-RW, etc. that aren't available from Gateway when W2K is pre-loaded (onw of the main reasons we continue to order from a VAR. By the way, these same peripherals aren't available on the PIII based W2k systems, either (the last time I looked, anyway). The issue is W2k drivers, not motherboard or processor.

Regards,

Dan
