High Performance RDRAM-based Systems Available Under $1200
May 17, 2000 08:09 AM Eastern Time
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 17, 2000--Rambus Inc. RMBS , today announced that RDRAM(R)-based systems offered by major PC OEMs such as Dell Computer Corporation and Hewlett-Packard Company have been geared toward mainstream business customers.

"The OptiPlex GX200 is an ideal platform for today's knowledge worker in an enterprise environment that leverages the Internet/intranet for real-time information and communication," said Steve Yon, Director of Marketing, OptiPlex Corporate Desktop Products at Dell Computer Corporation. "With Rambus memory and Intel's 820 chipset, the OptiPlex GX200 delivers high performance and increased bandwidth to mainstream business customers at less than $1200."

RDRAM-based systems provide the highest bandwidth and performance while delivering maximum memory headroom for increasing processor speeds. RDRAM devices, with data rate transfers of up to 800MHz, enable a single Rambus(R) channel to achieve up to 1.6 gigabytes per second, the highest available today. Reviews based on the latest industry standard performance benchmarks from independent sites such as Anandtech, HardwareCentral, Maximum PC, PC Magazine, PC Labs, PC World, SharkyExtreme and others, report that RDRAM-based systems visibly outperform similarly configured, commercially available SDRAM-based systems.

"With its Vectra and Kayak PC solutions, HP is providing organizations of all sizes with the power to efficiently utilize the latest business applications, to boost productivity and remain competitive," said Jean-Jacques Ozil, Marketing Manager, Business Desktop Division, Hewlett-Packard Company. "The latest HP systems incorporate Rambus memory, delivering exceptional performance at affordable price points across the HP Vectra and Kayak PC product lines."

My apologies, Joe, but I prefer to assume your response was in bad faith rather than to presume you are a fool.

Nevertheless, if you really meant what you posted, posting Semico numbers - our good friend Sherry Garber - after her estimates have long since been exceeded even this year, is not the best approach.

As for whether AMD gets to .13, you certainly miss the point. It matters not when or whether AMD gets to .13. What matters is when INTC has enough .13 plants to flood the market and lower the CPU cost, given that INTC has five times as many plants as AMD.

My blessings to you if you really were shortchanged as a child.
