So let's pose this question (which I'm sure has been broached in the past)......

Is the failure of this merger ENOUGH to cause MC to resign?

Personally, having seen the CORL linux suite of applications, I SMELL TAKEOVER CANDIDATE!!.

They are to Linux what Microsoft Office is to Windows.

Anyone have a list of potential acquirers that would like to obtain CORLs applications?

I can name one.... IBM.

But Swift said Corel's gains are the result of arbitrageurs who hoped to profit from the merger by selling Corel "short," meaning they sell borrowed stock in the hope of buying it back at a cheaper price. With the collapse of the deal, they were buying to cover their short positions.

Corel's future pondered as merger with Inprise-Borland called off
...Stewart and Restivo suggested the company has likely received financing offers from smaller lending institutions, but isn't an imminent takeover candidate.

"Their stock price would have to fall much lower - I think acquisitors are going to look for more of a bargain basement price," Restivo said.

In reference to Corel's aging business software, Stewart added: "Why would you want a shrinking office productivity suite?" .....
