nutty calculation on Dow

Dow components contribute to changes in Dow index equally
if IBM rises 1 pt, Dow rises something like 4 pts
if HP rises 1 pt, Dow rises same 4 pts
if lowly JPMorgan rises 1 pts, Dow rises same 4 pts

here is the strange reality
GE split 3:1
now if GE rises 1 pt, it still moves Dow by 4 pts (same as before)
American Express also split, now has half the Dow weight

NYSE is seeking remedy to this stupidity
the NazComp is marketcap weighted, Dow is not
one would think at least GE would have its multiplier triple

if a stock in the Dow truly wanted to muck the system,
it would plan a reverse 2:1 split
then it would double its weighting on the Dow moves
