Here's the problem:

"In that regard, Consulting and the SE's rarely work together. The SEs do the pilots and close the deals, then the consultants come in for design and implementation, finally post-sales support issues go to support services"

And who is maintaining the continuity throughout this process? Who is the "go-to" person when the client has a question/problem or need? The SE? The consultant? The post-sales support? How are clients "handed off" to the other hands so to speak? At what point does the pilot become the implementation (I always knew the pilot to be part of the implementation - just limited in scope).

These steps are not separate entities unto themselves - they are steps within the same goal. There needs to be a tight coordination between all the groups involved. In fact, I would go so far as indicate that Novell needs to break down these groups into loosely-knitted "teams" that include staff from each area handling "projects" with technical support being as it is.

This would of course place a premium on project management or client relationship handling from the pre-sales to implementation phase.

Again, this is purely MHO - I could be wrong :)
