Not making excuses for Texas, growing pains have caused a lot of grief, being on the Mexico border always cause lots of problems, but stats are misleading.

As an example, the largest county in Texas is Brewster County. Brewster county has a population of less than 9000 people, that in a state of over 20 million people. And the size??

Brewster County is 6,204 square miles of territory. To compare that : It is equal in size to the combined areas of Connecticut and Rhode Island.

So when there is no industry to speak of and not much population, and couple that with the nearness to Mexico, and stats don't look good.
