Scott Davidson,The treasurer of Citrix, was interviewed at the latest Chase H&Q Technology Conference. He was asked about the specific goals of Citrix over the next few years. He mentioned 2 main goals
1) To dominate the ASP area. He says that ASP is really an external MIS,so that CTXS products developed for MIS fit nicely into ASP because the needs are the same. In either case the site is managed much the same way. ASP will fit nicely with companies that for size or other reasons don't want to fund their own MIS and IT staff.
2) To penetrate more deeply into enterprise organizations, to become more of an enterprise infrastructure company. So far they have wide but shallow penetration. 100% of the Fortune 100 companies are CTXS customers, but most have small installations. A department or a division may be using CTXS, but not the entire enterprise.
The biggest problem he sees is the same I've heard mentioned by many companies - the shortage the right kind of personnel. He mentioned that this restraint now extends past technical and into marketing and sales.
He expects R&D to be up by about 25% in the next few years.
