you may well be right re. the regime's stability at this point in time. that may change however as the restructuring of the bankrupt state industries proceeds and unemployment rises. from what i have read on the subject it seems that China is less cohesive than is generally assumed in the West.
in any case, it's just something one should keep an eye on...

OT: Taiwan/PRC

Think oil. South China Sea has substantial number of wells
SE of Hong Kong. Also rigs have been working 75 miles or so
off Kaohsiung for some years now. PRC also claims and is
constructing buildings on Spratlys. Think 200 mile limit.
