Yes, they seem to have difficulty dealing with research and analysis, and they have increasingly lost interest in attempting it, as the news magazines increasingly resemble Hard Copy. When the Washington Post does a more in- depth piece, they cannot count on their readership to know fundamentals, and therefore have sidebars explaining simple terms. This is a lot of the reason for not bothering: given the level of basic knowledge brought to the table, few would be interested.......
