Jim, that sounds VERY cool. Who made it? How does it connect to your TV, S-jacks or RF?

Re: Concerns over DRDRAM prices falling

Jim,

I just mailed JC to see if he would add DRDRAM to his pricewatch analysis. If he does, it would be easy to track if prices are coming down because he updates once a week.

jc-news.com

Check out JC's quote at the bottom:

Intel announced the 1GHz Pentium III on March 8th, which is precisely two months and one week ago. It still isn't out in any semblance of volume (it isn't even out in what I'd call "respectable" low volume). This isn't a funny joke anymore, Intel.

Jim, Well, the laptop has been a visible perk for execs etc and that time is coming to a close. If some kind of screen, mobo and battery standard emerged that would fit a standard case you would see competition. As it is each one stands alone with a sea of proprietary parts, like screens, CDROMs, cases, mobos etc....the definition of a monopoly is each OEM laptop maker.
I am sure they era very profitable, but there are also leeson to be learned...I have seen man Taiwan laptops that are totally crappy, that break at the first shock etc.
The laptop makers have done a good job and have engineeered a good product. Now it has stabilised and it is time for a large price drop.
I would not like the luggable lump you mentioned on a TV screen....fuzz city IMO.
For the longest time I did not bother with a laptop...too much $$ for value.
30% of laptops are broken/stolen each year, a huge total.

Bill

Jim, <The product is called "book PC" build around a micro ATX motherboard.>

You saw this at a computer show, huh? My roommate got one about four months ago at a price that was somewhat higher than the one you just quoted. Great system, though it's still too big to be considered truly portable. By the way, you forgot to mention that this system features an 810 chipset, the one with integrated graphics and no external AGP slot.

<Notebooks are akin to flushing money down the toilet, IMHO...>

I disagree, though I'd still like to see the price of good laptops drop below $1000.
