Any suggestions or do I have essentially the same problem as GeorgeD. with too many programs open?

Sorry, you essentially have to many programs open. Windows 98 Resource meter and the Graphics Device Interface Indicator displayed by Norton System Works only display the status of two fixed 64 k blocks of memory. Buying more memory does not change the size of these memory blocks. My hunch is you have to many programs packed into your System Tray. Count the number of Icons you see in the lower right corner of your screen. If is over 10 start eliminating some. Use MsConfig to do this.

Down with the Infidels!

Is your PC still running like the day you bought it or has the performance been slowly sagging over time much like your grandma's nylons? In the weeks to come I will be going over various ways to speed things up while adding some much needed stability to the fragile egg that is Windows 98.
