Eric,

You state that a mere reference to the golden rule isn't enough. But then you state that you agree with the "junta's" decision. Aren't these mutually exculsive?

Not really. The problem with the junta's approach is twofold: (1) they don't sufficiently explain the rules in advance; and (2) they don't explain how the rules are violated when they are being applied. Those are quibbles with the process. I agree with the result in that I would have personally come to the same conclusion, though I acknowledge that the process was lacking. I guess the best analogy I can offer is that a criminal convicted in an unfair trial but who actually did commit the crime still deserves to do the time. Granted, one of the cornerstones of our system of justice is that the law must be sufficiently clear that the perpetrator of the crime must be able to comprehend that his actions are wrong (otherwise it is void for "vagueness"). But I just don't believe that KIS really believed he was doing something that the thread "rules" permitted. I think he was trying to get thrown out, by ratcheting up the rhetoric and making it more personal.

As for the posts themselves, what bothered me was that the abrasiveness appeared intentional and calculated to me. I often agree with what KIS says, even have him bookmarked, but when someone migrates to another thread and seems to have as a primary purpose getting in somebody's face and being a pain in the a**, I have a problem with that. We've seen a bit too much of that on SI lately, and that's one of the reasons maybe that this thread was created. I really haven't noticed the moderator using the thread as a monument to his own ego, and if he does there are plenty of other threads and we can all vote to leave with our feet (or mouse clicks).

Glad you like the nickname ; )

MD

EDIT: And you know, there are some guidelines, if not rules, in the thread header. I don't think KIS can in good faith say that he adhered to these:The rules here are fairly strict: Adhere to SI's TOS and then think Golden Rule. Tastelessness or thoughtlessness not welcome here. Those are things like repeated swearing, or lying, name-calling, posting "I told you so" more than a couple times a year, harassment, personal attacks, detraction, misrepresentation of others' positions, sniping, irresponsible agendas, vendettas, reckless ranting, undefended extremism or conspiracy theory, self-promotion, etc.
