Vital Statistics - 5/16/00

DVD title sales are up from last week! According to VideoScan?s First Alert Reporting Retailers, for the week ending May 7, 2000, weekly DVD title sales were 717,000 (up from 604,000 the previous week). Year-to-date DVD title sales are at an ever-increasing 13,602,000!

According to the CEA, for the week ending May 5, 2000, DVD player unit sales to dealers for the week and month are 38,933, only a 6.7 percent increase over 1999. Year-to-date sales are at 1,631,750, a 127.7 percent increase over 1999.

VCR sales are also down at 217,873, a (-5.2) decrease for the week and month compared with 1999, yielding a year-to-date total of 6,628,456, a 7.8 percent increase over 1999.

However, projection television sales are strong at 8,994, for the week and month, a 22.7 percent increase over 1999, yielding a year-to-date total of 423,522, a 29.9 percent increase over 1999.
