John, don't bet your paycheck on it.

"it will be that it isn't fibre or wireless, therefore it's not part of the new paradigm."

Not so fast. When TERN stepped over the dsl threshold by recently acquiring two dsl outfits, he applauded those moves, stating that it rounded out TERN's last mile strategic approach, encompassing now cable modem, wireless and dsl. The dsl strategy in his view was so superior that he stated that TERN was now poised to challenge Next Level, who he characterized as: "the current leader of digital video." Maybe so. I also seem to recall that NXTV cut a deal with TERN a little while after this report was released.

And maybe in making that statement one should infer something about the core and fiber of Next Level as the level to beat.

Here is the press release that tells the story of the TERN-NXTV deal that was cut just a couple of weeks after the 2/2000 GTR. What are the odds of that happening?

But ever since reading that report (the February 2000 GTR) I've had a problem reconciling the obvious contradictions which exist between his previous views which, like you implied, focused primarily on fiber and wireless and the exclusion of anything vaguely resembling established telco constructs, much less copper loops, and those which he espoused in the February report which seemed to be a complete reversal, for one brief pause.

Not too surprisingly, now that I look at this topic in retrospect, because George created a special --maybe an honorary -- category among paradigms and -cosms for TERN, one that accepts legacy constructs. Even those which are inextricably dependent on old telco copper loops.

FACetious or FACt?
