The local Verizon reg mgr told me today that the gov approval is a done deal as of yesterday or today. This allows agencies to buy direct w/o going through gao or other red tape. He was real pleased because he says orders pending that approval. I think a similar thing is in the works in Canada which is to take effect in August. That is why on of the retailers I spoke with said expect sales to dramatically increase after August in Canada.

<-It was stated that VOD has ordered the NZ GW.> Well, they have repeated it a few times now, so I'm starting to think that there might be something to it.

That will give Verizon/Vodafone total coverage of Australia and New Zealand and quite a marketing advantage when the handset design improves and the prices of handsets and minutes come down to reasonable levels so people can use them fairly freely. That should be in about 5 years.

People will then choose Vodafone and have two handsets - the satellite one for out beyond the black stump and a city mini model.

With ICO out of the way, they should do well.

I'm really looking forwards to having a gateway here. I suppose it'll take until the end of 2002 to get the damn thing running though. It took them from early 1997 to get Dubbo happening - just went commercial a couple of months ago. That was 3 years. Maybe they can cut it down to two years now they've had some practice.

The G! Steamroller is gathering momentum!

Look out!

PS: Thanks for the report on the meeting. OmniTRACS was always going to go onto G! but it isn't that important. Things are looking up.
