Agip Shuts 100,000 BPD After Nigeria Pipeline Fire

LAGOS, May 17 (Reuters) - Italian oil company Agip's Nigerian producing unit said on Wednesday it had shut in 100,000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil following a fire outbreak on its pipeline in the volatile Niger Delta region.

The company said in a statement fire broke out on Tuesday during repairs on the Ogoda-Brass pipeline near Nembe in southern Bayelsa State from where an oil spillage was recorded last Saturday. The fire had been put out, it said.

"While our maintenance and safety team were mobilising, an out outbreak of fire occured in the area... consequently shutting down delivery from the pipeline and all facilities," the statement said. A company spokesman later told Reuters that about 100,000 bpd of oil had been shut in.

The statement said the cause of the fire was being investigated but that it suspected sabotage as the pipeline leak was "due to act of an explosive devise." Appropriate federal and state authorities had been notified of the incident, it added.

Agip produces about 150,000 bpd of oil in joint veture with state-run NNPC. Facilities of multinationals producing Nigeria's nearly two million barrels of oil per day frequently come under attacks from restive communities in the Niger Delta demanding a greater share of the region's oil resorces.

Jim_P, I leave town on business for 3 days and come home to more GREEN than I've seen since Sept. 97. Who or what built a FIRE under CHK? WoW!
I guess I should have stayed in New Orleans a few more days, weeks, or months, especially if the OSX stocks would continue moving up like this.
Take Care
