Maybe looking a little bit hard here. I really believed there might be a problem before listening to the cc. After, it was difficult. I must tell you I was disappointed there wasn't a smoking gun. I'm not going to stop looking, though. I believe there may still be something more to this.

In any case, OG, if perceptions still mean something (I think they do) then the baby could be thrown out with the bathwater on this issue.

The biggest users of vendor financing are in rough order:

1. Wireless carriers
2. CLECs
3. Alternative backbone carriers
4. ISPs

Cisco finances alot of GSR120xx's and as optical and 3G wireless backbones get to be a real business for Cisco, financing will become a bigger deal. As Gary correctly indicates, most of Cisco's sales are to Fortune 1000 enterprise accounts which pay in cash and on time. It allows Cisco to be a bit aggressive in playing the financing card to win carrier business as it is still a small enough category that the pristine balance sheet is not really in danger.
