I don't know that I can answer your specific questions, but I think it's very clear willamete can switch to DDR sdram with no significant penalty anytime Intel wants to since Foster will run on that platform and is just a derivitive of willamete.

Intel could have dropped RDRAM entirely many months ago. The fact that Intel continues to push RDRAM means that Intel sees advantages in sticking with RDRAM, assuming that management isn't as stupid as you are insinuating.
