Don't you think that with US rates rising, the dollar will get stronger, hurting exports and increasing imports ? And in the process increasing the number of dollars abroad that will eventually come home ?

If the trade deficit is running at a couple hundred $bil per year now for several years, what is the cumulative deficit ? shouldn't be around 2 or 3 trillion ? Isn't that just basically money supply that will ignite huge inflation ? How come we never hear about the cumulative trade deficit ? Does it dissipate with time, somehow ? Or has that money come back already in the form of foreign ownership of US stocks. Maybe that was part of the 2 trillion that evaporated from the market last month.
